On June 8 local time, the 500kV substation reverse power transmission of the Abydos II PV+ Energy Storage Project, Africa’s largest PV + storage project currently under construction, was successfully completed on the first attempt. Jointly undertaken by a consortium of China Energy International Group Co., Ltd., CEEC Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd., and Southwest Electric Power Design Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, the project lays a solid foundation for the subsequent trial operation of the energy storage system and the full-capacity grid connection of the PV plant.
As a key project in Egypt’s energy transition strategy, the project comprises a 1GW PV plant and a 600MWh energy storage system.
