Egypt’s Abidoos Phase II 600MWh BESS Achieves Successful Grid Connection

On June 30 local time, the 600MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Abidoos Phase II Solar-Plus-Storage Project, Africa’s largest solar-plus-storage facility under construction, achieved a successful one-shot, full-capacity grid connection, laying a solid foundation for the Project’s full-capacity commissioning and commercial operation.

Located in Aswan City, Egypt, the Abidoos Phase II Solar-Plus-Storage Project comprises a 1GW photovoltaic power plant and a 600MWh BESS, featuring 145 battery containers and 73 medium-voltage skids. Once fully operational, the Project is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.46 million tons annually and power 380,000 Egyptian households, while significantly strengthening the stability of Egypt’s power grid. The Project will play a key role in helping Egypt reach its target of a 42% renewable energy share by 2030, setting a benchmark for clean energy transition across North Africa.
