Uzbekistan’s 1.6 GW Syrdarya II Combined Cycle Power Plant Achieves First-time Grid Connection

On July 12 local time, the steam turbine at Uzbekistan’s 1.6 GW Syrdarya II Combined Cycle Power Plant successfully achieved first-time grid connection. The project was designed by China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. and constructed by China Energy Engineering Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd.

With a total installed capacity of 1.6 GW, this is currently Central Asia’s largest combined cycle power plant project. It utilizes Mitsubishi’s advanced J-class gas turbine technology, delivering a combined cycle efficiency exceeding 63% and an estimated annual output of 12 billion kWh. Once fully operational, the facility will significantly strengthen energy security and drive economic growth across the Central Asian region.
