On July 14 local time, Unit 2 of the Biovéa 46MW Biomass Power Plant Project in Côte d’Ivoire was officially put into operation following the completion of reliability trials and performance tests. As the largest biomass clean energy project under construction in West Africa, it’s undertaken on an EPC basis by a consortium of China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd. and China Energy International Group Co., Ltd.
The project is the world’s first large-scale biomass power plant fueled primarily by palm frond stalks. By utilizing locally collected agricultural and forestry waste, the plant will benefit 12,000 palm-farming households, establishing a complete value chain encompassing “palm cultivation, waste recovery, and green power generation.”
With a total installed capacity of 46MW, the project generates 348 million kWh of electricity annually, accounting for 15% of Côte d'Ivoire’s total renewable energy output and reliably meeting the daily electricity needs of 1.7 million people.
