On October 9 local time, Unit 2 of the Ratawi 1GW Solar PV Project - the largest under-construction PV project in Iraq, jointly delivered by the consortium of Energy China International, China Energy Engineering Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group - successfully completed the first-time back-feeding power operation. The system is running stably with all equipment parameters within normal ranges, laying a solid foundation for Unit 2 to reach full-capacity grid-connected generation.

As a critical milestone in power plant construction, the back-feeding operation serves as a comprehensive validation of the project’s engineering design, equipment installation, system commissioning, and safety management capabilities. Located roughly 70 km east of Basra, the Iraq Ratawi 1GW Solar PV Project is the country’s first large-scale centralized photovoltaic power station. Upon completion, the project is projected to deliver around 2,876 GWh of clean electricity to the local communities annually, equivalent to cutting approximately 2 million tons of CO2 emissions and will notably lift Iraq’s renewable energy penetration rate.
