On September 15 local time, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station (“the SK Hydropower Station”) in Pakistan, invested in, constructed and operated by CEEC, celebrated the first anniversary of its commercial operation at a ceremony in Islamabad. The ceremony was attended and addressed by Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Shi Yuanqiang, Chinese Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Pakistan, and Shah Jahan Mirza, Managing Director of Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) of Pakistan.
Having delivered 2.8 billion kWh of clean electricity to Pakistan to date, the SK Hydropower Station has become a “powerhouse” for local socio-economic advancement, a “stabilizer” for energy supply, and a “new engine” for green development.
While pursuing development, the SK Hydropower Station is also committed to green, sustainable practices and deep integration into the local community. During the peak period of construction, the project created over 6,000 direct jobs for locals. In the operational phase, it provides more than 100 stable positions. The project has planted more than 150,000 trees over seven consecutive years and has built and handed over a 5,000-square-meter trout hatchery along with a local government service center. For the past two years, it has supported 31 students through its “Advancing with Aspirations” educational program. The project has also actively participated in disaster relief and donated funds in response to multiple natural disasters.
For its notable contributions, the SK Hydropower Station has been honored with multiple prestigious awards from the Government of Pakistan, including the “Excellence in Tax Payment Award,” the “Award for Active Contribution to Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability,” and the “Excellence in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Award.”
