Qiao noted that Energy China, with exceptional integrated capabilities in the water resources and utilities sector, has invested in and delivered a wide array of landmark projects worldwide, amassing extensive experience in investment, construction, and operation. Now, Energy China is poised to engage in an interaction and cooperation mechanism with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of South Africa. This mechanism will enable Energy China to develop integrated system solutions for the efficient and rational use of water resources in South Africa by leveraging its expertise in planning, design, and investment facilitation, coupled with cutting-edge technologies. Energy China is committed to partnering with the Ministry to create high-quality projects and drive forward the sustainable utilization of water resources in South Africa.
David Mahlobo highlighted the challenge South Africa faces in water scarcity. He noted that, as the authority responsible for centralized management of the country’s water resources, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation is mandated to formulate and implement policies to ensure the clean, effective, and efficient utilization of water resources. He expressed the Ministry’s willingness to enhance information exchange and collaboration with Energy China. Furthermore, he proposed actively exploring diverse partnership models in key areas such as groundwater development, utilization, and protection, dam construction, water supply and conveyance infrastructure, wastewater treatment, and seawater desalination, with the aim of facilitating effective project cooperation and implementation.
