Kazakhstan’s Largest Single-Site Photovoltaic Energy Storage Project Commences

On December 15 local time, the 300 MW Photovoltaic Energy Storage Project in Turkistan, Kazakhstan, invested and built by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., officially commenced.

As the first “Photovoltaic Plus Energy Storage” facility and the largest of its kind by single-site capacity in Kazakhstan, it is also the first new-energy project launched under the China-Kazakhstan Renewable-Energy Cooperation Framework Agreement signed after this year’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.

With a total investment of approximately USD 307 million, the project adopts a “Photovoltaic Plus Energy Storage” model and plans to install a 300 MW photovoltaic system and a 90 MW/360 MWh energy-storage system. When completed and operational, the project will supply approximately 674 GWh of clean electricity annually, saving roughly 140 million m³ of natural gas and reducing CO2 emissions by about 2.6 million tonnes. It will play a vital role in the large-scale integration of new energy into the local grid, effectively enhancing the stability and security of the regional power system.
