CEEC Secures RMB 9.6 Billion Contract for Kazakhstan Water Supply Project

On March 31 local time, China Gezhouba Group and Kazakhstan’s Elorda Aqua signed an EPC contract for the Astana Water Supply Project, valued at approximately KZT 651.2 billion, equivalent to RMB 9.6 billion. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Roman Sklyar, Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister, and Han Chunlin, Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan.

Located in the southeast of Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the Project marks the first water supply project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in Kazakhstan. It involves the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a water intake pumping station with a daily capacity of 342,000 m³, two booster pumping stations, a 400 km water transmission pipeline network, distribution pipelines, and a water purification plant with a daily treatment capacity of 210,000 m³.

The contract embodies a significant milestone of CEEC in advancing the high-quality co-development of the Belt and Road Initiative and bolstering China-Kazakhstan relations over the next “Golden Thirty Years”. Upon completion, the Project will serve approximately two million residents and address the growing needs of the local community.

Principals of relevant departments of the two sides attended the signing ceremony.
